Typical deck costs

Simple ground-level timber deck: often around EUR 130–270 per m² including installation.

Deck with sub-frame, steps and railing: often around EUR 220–450 per m².

Composite boards or glass railing: often around EUR 350–620 per m².

A roof or pergola typically adds EUR 900–1,800 or more. Labour costs vary widely between countries.

What affects the price the most?

Height above ground: raised decks need stronger frames, railings and often permits.

Material: pressure-treated timber is cheapest; hardwood and composite cost more but need less maintenance.

Ground conditions: sloping ground, rock or soft clay make foundations more expensive.

Extras: built-in lighting, stairs, roofing and glass screens add up quickly.

Do I need a building permit?

Low decks close to the ground are often permit-free, while raised or roofed decks usually need a permit or notification. Rules vary by country and municipality – always check locally.
